Our Mission
The Singapore National Academy of Science (SNAS), established in 1977, is an independent umbrella organisation dedicated to advancing science and technology in Singapore. It serves as a national representative body for the scientific community and plays an active role in supporting research, education, and outreach. Since 2011, SNAS has been electing outstanding scientists as Fellows in recognition of their significant contributions to science. These Fellows are leaders in their respective fields, many of whom have received national and international accolades and hold key positions in academia and research. Prominent SNAS Fellows include Prof Tan Eng Chye (President, NUS), Prof Ling San (Deputy President and Provost, NTU), Prof Phoon Kok-Kwang (President, SUTD), and Prof Tan Chorh Chuan (Permanent Secretary, NRF).
As part of its mission, SNAS is committed to public science education and outreach. It actively promotes scientific literacy and curiosity, particularly among students and the broader community. SNAS also acknowledges and rewards excellence through initiatives like the Young Scientist Award (YSA) and SNAS Student Awards. On the international front, SNAS represents Singapore in key global scientific forums, ensuring that our scientific community remains well-connected, recognised, and aligned with cutting-edge developments worldwide.
